25 years after their encounter in the final of the 1992 European Championships in Sweden, Germany and Denmark will play a friendly match on the 6th June 2017 in Copenhagen. The Danish football association specifically requested the Germany national team as their opponents, to mark the 25th year since Denmark triumphed 2-0 to win the European Championships.
”Denmark has always managed to produce top players. Even though they narrowly missed out on qualification for EURO 2016 in France, they play a modern, creative and exciting brand of football,” said Germany head coach Joachim Löw. Team manager Oliver Bierhoff added: “It will be a fantastic occasion to play against Denmark, 25 years after we lost the European Championship final in 1992. We are really looking forward to the game and are sure that both sets of fans are too.
Åge Hareide, head coach of the Denmark side, had this to say: “Germany are currently the best team in the world. To be able to play against the World Champions is not only an outstanding opportunity for our players to continue their development, but it will also be a great spectacle for the fans.”
Four days after the game in Denmark on the 10th June, die Mannschaft play a World Cup qualifier against San Marino in Nuremburg. Following that, Joachim Löw’s side travel to Russia for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup. The national team will play Australia (19th June 2017 in Sotchi), Chile (22nd June 2017 in Kasan) and the Africa Cup of Nations champions (25th June 2017 in Sotchi) in the group stages of the competition.
