This singular wrong call by the referee did raise alot of suspicion and got people talking all over social media. It was also a debatable issue for the studio analysts in their post-match analysis who thought the referee had gotten his decision quite wrong and was quick to act without having a second confirmation from his colleagues.

Barcelona were actually top of the Liga standings after defeating Atletico Madrid 2-1 and it was a matter of controversy, prestige and points gained for rival team as Barcelona's controversial defender, Gerard Pique tweeted to express his dissatisfaction with the officiating of the game that saw Madrid usurp Barcelona back to claim top spot in the league.
Pique's tweet: "Against the same teams. 8 points. 8 and such. Those cuts are of press of Madrid by the doubt".
It didn't take long before Pique's greatest tweet fight rival Sergio Ramos responded accordingly and even trolled FC Barcelona indirectly in the process. He also highlighted he wasn't surprised the tweet came from Pique but would have been more flabbergasted if it was from Lionel Messi.

Ramos tweeted: "A game to learn and three points to keep dreaming. To follow! To match to learn from, three points to keep dreaming".
Pique who is a regular culprit for lambasting events involving Real Madrid and the disappointing affairs of the administration of the league has been cautioned by the referee association and as it stands, according to reports emanating from Spain, the referee organization has reported his case to the appropriate authorities which is tantamount to a corresponding punishment if found guilty.

IuSport's tweet:
However, no judgement has been made so far concerning this issue.

The battle is getting interesting and heated up as the various club handles of Real Madrid and Barcelona has joined in the fierce bants on social media.

Real Madrid's show of disappointment and claim for justice.

The Official Real Madrid Information twitter handle tweeted that the club is short changed and undergoing abuse by TV personnel who is raising a campaign against the club by picking out their faults instead of doing their job fair and squarely on match days' coverage. They also propose to report the matter to the President of La Liga accordingly.

However, Real Madrid are under criticisms from the Villarreal's President Fernando Alfonso Roig after he reported to media houses in Spain claiming Madrid gave out gifts to officials who officiated their game.
Marca reports that the referee association are unhappy with his comments.

In response to obvious claims from the Villarreal President that Real Madrid bribed the referees after calls went their way in the Game Vs Villarreal; the handle posted this defending their right to offer gifts to whom it is due.

According to the club,  "Real Madrid's souvenir bags contain keychains & pens priced at a little over €43." they posted on their handle.

The club also tweeted this to show more evidence to refute the claims from Villarreal President, Roig.

The club also went as far as digging out picture of a referee who went home with gifts after officiating the Real Madrid Vs Villarreal game sometime in 2012.

To buttress their point and stake a claim, they also added more evidences of different referees who have received gifts from Real's opponents after officiating games involving Real Madrid for job well done as calls did not go their way.
To an extent, the Real Madrid is not taking it lightly as they also included pics claiming Cedric Bakambu's second goal was offside.
There are also several complains emanating from the club pointing out that they will lay an official complain to the President of La Liga, Javier Tebas over claims of been treated unfairly and TV bias.

Barcelona making a shout of discontempt against a campaign

The other part of Spain, Barcelona, is equally under fierce battle with their rivals as they expressed their discontempt over the poor officiating by ref Gil on the penalty incident. They pointed out to their own situation when they were robbed off a penalty call in broad day light by another referee in their game vs Villarreal at the El Madigral some weeks back.

To make matters worse, the referee Gil Manzano has been appointed to officiate Barcelona's game Vs Celta Vigo this Saturday and Barcelona is not finding it funny as they have showed disappointment over this decision by the LFP.
Surprisingly another Barca Fan Club handle, MessiStat, popularly known for giving out information on Messi's stats claims the referee Mazano is a Madrid based ref.

MessiStats' tweet:
It doesn't end there, jibes were flying in as the handle took a dig at Real Madrid with this funny tweet.

However, the headlines this morning on the front page of Mundo Deportivo a Spanish newspaper based in Barcelona reads: "Blow to La Liga" (Barça win in Calderon but don't get to be league leader because of the poor refs' decisions in Madrid favour)".
