NPFL U17 ALL STARS SET FOR SOUTH AFRICA TOURNAMENT

As part of the NPFL and La Liga Partnership, the League Management Company (LMC) have announced the NPFL All Stars U17 team will be part of the Future Champions Cup in South Africa later this month.

LMC already proposed the NPFL Youth League coming up this season to help the clubs raise Youth teams respectively. The organizers of the Future Champions Cup have now confirmed that teams from Italy, Spain, Russia and Belgium have been confirmed for participation in this year’s football tournament and the European clubs will compete with the NPFL All Stars U17 team.

The LMC Chairman, Shehu Dikko told Naija football plus during an interview that former Super Eagles manager, Austin Eguavoen has been contracted to tutor the NPFL All Stars U17 team.

He also said, "We have an offer from La Liga to send an U17 team to a tournament in South Africa organized by La Liga called Future Champions where the U17 of top teams in La Liga and other invited U17 teams globally would participate".

"We decided to check into our data base of all the players registered by our clubs under the LMC Youth Development Policy (the five Youth players allowed to be registered) and we selected all those within the age limit provided for participation in the Future Champions Cup".

"We technically set up another NPFL All Stars U17 comprising eligible players from all the 20 clubs. They came to camp in Abuja and the best 20 were selected for the tournament".

"We have also contracted Eguavoen to be the team head coach alongside with Coach Nasidi the former National U15 coach".

"The team would be in South Africa later this month for the tournament. Another of our effort to encourage the clubs to have Youth Players in their teams," said Dikko.

The Tournament will take place at the Football Training Centre in Pimville, Soweto from March 20-25. Atletico Madrid emerged champions of last year's tournament after defeating PSL side, Bidvest Wits.
