Rivers United are on a downward spiral in the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and ever since their elimination from the CAF Champions League, things have not been going well with them and the manager is not exempted from the blame.
Coach Stanley Eguma have been on the receiving end of criticisms lately after his team was ousted from the most prestigious club competition in Africa, the CAF Champions league after loosing away to Al-Merrihk of Sudan, a game they won at home by 3 goal margin. Irrespective of the first leg home lead, they went to Sudan and lost by 4 - 0 with the tie ending on an aggregate of 4-3.
However, they have been grouped in the second tier of the competition, the CAF confederation cup and drawn alongside Ryan Sports of Rwanda.
The club however, have released an official statement this morning stating the suspension of Coach Stanley Eguma after he reported to the stadium late for game day against Plateau United.
The statement reads:
"Technical manager of Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt, Stanley Eguma has been hit with a one match suspension. Eguma was suspended for reporting eighteen (18) minutes after kickoff to the venue of Wednesday’s NPFL game between Rivers United and Plateau United.
Following this development, Eguma will not be part of the United team for this weekend’s NPFL game against Gombe United in Gombe".
