APPLE TV SET TO LAUNCH IN SEPTEMBER

It is officially confirmed that Apple isn’t only going to be launching iPhones at its upcoming September event. But alongside a  4K-capable Apple TV set top box is also going to be on the menu.

Confirmation of the new Apple TV’s unveiling came in an article from Bloomberg today. Quoting ‘people familiar with the matter’, the article states that “the updated box, to be revealed alongside new iPhone and Apple Watch models at an event in September, will run a faster processor capable of streaming higher-resolution 4K content.”
Apple Tv set to make way in September
The inability of the current Apple TV to handle either 4K resolution or high dynamic range picture technologies when pretty much all of its rivals now do has seen its sales slide severely over recent months. So it would have almost unthinkable for Apple to wait until 2018 to officially reveal a box which multiple sources have reported as being in the works for months now.

However, details on whether the new Apple TV will just be playing catch up with its rivals, or whether it will push ahead in any key technical areas is still pending. There is, however, evidence to suggest that its HDR support will cover both the broadcast friendly Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) and advanced Dolby Vision systems as well as the HDR10 industry standard. This would give it something of an edge, at least.

We also don’t know yet exactly where the 4K HDR content for Apple’s new TV box of tricks will come from. Netflix supports 4K HDR streaming, though, along with Vudu (which was added to Apple’s app store earlier this week). Then there’s Vevo and YouTube, as well as Amazon Video, which is set to join the roster of Apple TV services soon. Finally, 4K HDR references have recently started showing up in iTunes movie receipts.
