The 3rd edition of the DAAR awards took place at the International Conference Center Abuja on 19th January, 2019.
The award was created to celebrate exemplary individuals in society and their impact, influence and achievements within a calendar year.
The event was aired live by sponsors Africa Independent Television (AIT) and was hosted by TV sensation Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and veteran music group, Styl-Plus; 2Baba, Richard Hussaini and DJ Neptune stunned the guest with live performances.
Timi Dakolo's soft tune eased the pressure while Comedian Kenny Blaq was on hand to make the guest crack their ribs.
The voting process by which winners were selected are as follows:
- DAAR planning committee: 30%
- Participation and presence of the awards: 30%
- Cumulative votes on website & official social media polls: 40%
Veteran actor, Chika Okpala aka Zebrudaya was rewarded for his heroics in movies with 'DAAR awards for Lifetime Achievement in Nollywood' while King Sunny Are was awarded 'DAAR Lifetime Achievement award in Music'. Also, her Excellency, President Shale-Work Zwade (Ethiopia) was awarded 'DAAR Africa Economic Transformation' awards.
