Argentina - CONMEBOL welcomes World Champions.
About thirteen months between them, Lionel Messi led Argentina has won the Copa America, Finalissima and World Cup, a feat no South American country has ever did.
To crown this historic effort, the CONMEBOL decided to honour the Albiceleste to a heroics welcome and give special awards to the Argentina National Team players. During the event, Lionel Messi while giving his speech, showcased the three trophies won to the audience.
Lionel Messi: "I'm going to keep this Cup in the museum. Thank you to you, Alejandro DomÃnguez for this honor and for all of CONMEBOL."
Lionel Messi after being honored by CONMEBOL: "We are experiencing very beautiful moments and receiving many expressions of affection. Doing it after being champions is very special. We are very happy to bring the Cup back to South America."
Lionel Scaloni: "Argentina wasn't just Argentina. It was all of South America that was behind it. This national team infected a lot of people with their desire to play and win. That Brazilians were happy for us shows what this national team achieved."
In the spirit of history, the CONMEBOL also unveiled a Lionel Messi live statue that will be placed alongside legends Diego Armando Maradona and Pele at the CONMEBOL headquarters in Asunción in Paraguay. During the unveiling, Lionel Messi was given a special honourary award to mark his legendary status in South American football.
