Cameroon celebrating with the trophy |
History was made as this is the first time in as many years did Cameroon come out tops in a final berth against the Pharaohs of Egypt. The game which lived up to the hype was feisty and interesting with both teams attacking from the other end.
The game got livelier when Mohammed El'neny scored in the 22nd minute after he received a stunning defense splitting pass from Mohammed Salah to poke home the Egyptians. It got until the 60th minute before substitute Nkoulou headed home a cross from the right hand side which took El Hadary by surprise and found the way into the net.
Parity was restored as both team looked for the winner before a sumptuous through pass found substitute Vincent Aboubakar who controlled intelligently with his chest, beat his marker and slammed home a ferocious shot which the goal keeper cannot reach in the 89th minute. This was enough to crown Cameroon the Champions of the Tournament after winning the 1984, 1988, 2000, 2002 editions.
