What is your NYSC story? Was it a success? Is the Scheme messed up? or its a platform to gain experience?
Many Nigerian Youths have constantly raised a notion on how messed up the National Youth Service Corp scheme has been, interestingly, it is the only thing after graduation that satisfies you as a full-blown higher institution graduate. A 3-weeks camping activity and a one-year practice afterwards that leaves you no option than to obey the 'clarion call' and serve your fatherland anywhere you find yourself. To what achievement? The 'NYSC' green certificate.
Over the years the scheme has attracted criticism from Nigerian Youths mostly on it's procedures and logistics involved. Part of the claim to buttress their point is: 'The Pay'. Many youths have lent their voices to the appropriate channels calling out for the increment of the monthly N19,800 "alawee' stipend paid by the Federal Government to serving corp members. Reason being that the money is rather too small to cover up expenses and other miscellaneous needs of an average corper following the high standard of living in the country due to the rise in economic value.
Irrespective of the small amount corpers receive, most times the payment is delayed.
The second reason is curled from the pattern at which inter-State postings is conducted. Many have lost their lives trying to travel as far away from their region to another in course of service, others have sustained injury or encountered one circumstances or the other.

Amongst all these reasons, there are others who will beat their chest and say..... truly the scheme, irrespective of how unfavorable it has been is still manageable. One of the recent claims emanate from an OAP who happens to share her success story about her days as a corper.
Here is 'The Favored Woman's' Story concerning the scheme:
NYSC is what you make of it. That 'useless' 1 year made me a solid broadcaster. I learned how to write, edit and read news. I made the leap into radio, I volunteered at a station to work/learn unpaid for 9 months. And I built relationships that ensured I'm still employed today.
She further opined: "It probably sounds 'cool' to diss that 1 year and call it useless these
days and yeah, the camps and admin process is horrible, but you can
choose how you want that one year to affect your life and move you
towards actualizing your dreams".
"The attitude you approach it with, will determine if it's 'useless' to you or not.
You're not really 'serving your country', you're building yourself".
On sharing her opinion, comments were attracted. Another person replied:
" NYSC gave me the opportunity to sponsor 60+ kids to school, organize
spelling bee, debate/quiz competition, organize excursion for senior
secondary student to a mechanized farm, afford me the task to write the
first Animal husbandry textbook for senior secondary school students".
It wasn't just the good side as many others refuse to agree with the notion on the actual success one can get during his/her service year.
Nice What you have been able to achieve during your NYSC days, but then again we have to think of how the opportunities reduces year in year out, you can't even intern for free these days without having a connection in the organization.— TINEO. (@derickchoc) July 11, 2018
Let me just say that a lot of us was focused on the fun part of NYSC. I was somewhere in Isua, Akoko South East LGA in Ondo enjoying a peaceful and conducive environment, pounded yam, egusi elefo riro, goatmeat, smoke fish and lots of undiluted palmwine with the locals.— Akinitan O. Ok... Where did you serve though?— Ngo (@HRC_Ngo) July 11, 2018
To be fair, I don't think someone posted to a random village in the North with no access to electricity to charge phone can say the same. Or a corper posted to a remote Bayelsa village that is a 30 mins boat ride from another remote village...
Very true. #NYSC helped me Kickstart my writing career with my #book launched few days to #POP #FNLABbyFSK #M101byFSK pic.twitter.com/bgyo6LatiZ— Felix Stephen (@SirFelixStephen) July 11, 2018
