NPFL: Rivers United Held Hostage in Katsina after Defeating the Home Team 1-0

Reports coming from match day 22 venue in Karkanda where the Rivers United played Katsina United say that the away team and its officials have been held hostage in Katsina-Ala. 

 

The Rivers State team secured a much needed 1-0 victory to earn them 3 points to continue their resurgence and form on their way to clinch the 2022 Nigerian Professional Football League with 49 points accumulated so far in 22 games.

Substitute Ishaq Kayode scored for the away team in the 50th minute but it took the referee 10minutes after and a lot of controversies to overturn the goal, however, in the 7 minute of added time, Rivers United took the lead through Jospeh Onoja to earn the team all three points.

NNL News: New Nigerian Club Sporting Lagos FC Begins League Campaign

This week, a new football club was launched in the second tier of the Nigerian League, the Nigerian National League (NNL). The SPORTING LAGOS Club as the name goes was unveiled in Lagos on Sunday by the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Paystack, Shola Akinlade.

 

According to Shola, they’re trying to create a modern football club to incubate the next generation of Nigerian sporting talent. During the unveiling, Godwin Enakhena, a renowned journalist was appointed as the first ever chairman of the club.

 

The Sporting Lagos started their league campaign in the NNL with a 1-1 draw with GO Round FC of Omoku, Rivers State in the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on Saturday.

NPFL: Dakkada FC Bans Staff who Assaulted Match Official

There was controversy on Match day four of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) game that took place between Dakkada FC and Remo Stars in Akwa Ibom. A staff of the club was caught on camera assaulting a member of the referee committee after the game. 

This incident has pushed the club, Dakkada FC to take action immediately on the staff who assaulted the match officials after he was identified from the video footage. The statement reads:

The staff has been reported to both the Akwa Ibom Divisional Police force and the League Management Company (LMC)

The identified individual whose details were left out from the public due to security reasons has been banned from all activities related to the Dakadda FC for an initial period of one year pending the outcome of both an ongoing internal review of the incident as well as the outcome of the investigation of the Police.

#NPFL: LMC Bans Kwara and Gombe United Ahead of the 2021/2022 League Season

In the wake of the 2021/2022 season billed to take place soon, the League Management Company (LMC) has started its official stadium investigation to ascertain which venue is fit and equipped to host games for the forth coming season.

Kwara United and Gombe united home stadium didn’t meet up to standard and has been banned by the LMC till further notice until they fix the venue. Part of the requirements listed out to the football club was:

Match Official Dressing Room

Toilets

Television Camera Stand

Electrical Score Board

Substitution Bench

Teams Dressing Room

LMC bans GOMBE United

LMC ban kwara united

The League Management Company promises to see that the necessary standard and equipment are made available across locations before the new season kicks off, else, clubs will be forced to play away from venue.

Mfon Udoh Signs for Saif Sporting Club of Bangladesh

Akwa United striker and the record highest goal scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL has signed for Saif Sporting Club of Bangladesh. This came after his contract with Akwa United ended few months back. Currently, the NPFL is on season break and will resume in a weeks time.

Mfon still remains the record highest goal scorer in the NPFL with 24 goals, a feat, no one has matched already. He was once suspended by Akwa United for protesting on their Algerian estacode in February; however as at May 2021, Mfon had scored six goals.

#NPFL: Enyimba FC Signs Kit Sponsorship Deal With 10Bet

Nigeria professional league giants, Enyimba FC of Aba has signed a new partnership with 10Bet, a betting company. The deal involves a shirt sponsorship for the People's Elephant for the 2021/2022 season. This feat makes the Eastern State club lineup with three other teams in the NPFL with a jersey sponsor.

The other three clubs are:
a) Rivers United sponsored by Oil and Gas company Eunisel
b) Kano Pillars sponsored by Aspira and Ammasco Oil and
c) Shooting Stars sponsored by Value Jet

Not only does Jersey sponsorship add monetary values to a club, it also adds beauty and a new face to the club's kit.

Kabiru Dogo Leaves Position as Head Coach of Sunshine Stars

Sunshine Stars FC wishes to communicate the departure of Head Coach, Alhaji Kabiru Suleiman Dogo from the Club following the expiration of his contract.


Sunshine Stars President Otunba Tajudeen Akinyemi expresses his gratitude to coach Kabiru, stating that though they didn't achieve their dreams of winning any silverware, they appreciate the efforts of the coach and his dedication towards the club.

Coach Kabiru also thanked the club and expressed his excitement during the time he spent with the club. "I don't regret my decisions, I appreciate every minute I spent with the club". I also want to appreciate the fans and people of Ondo state for the love shown to me".

Sammy Wejinya Resigns As Media Officer Of Rivers United FC

Few hours ago, the media officer of Rivers United Sammy Wejinya announced his resignation from his position. Wejinya, a renowned and award winning Radio Sports Presenter/Journalist and the pioneer of #SammyAndTheWiseMen called it quits with the club after five years representing the club in all fronts.

We are yet to know the reason he left his position but both parties have been quiet concerning the recent development.  

Rivers United were axed by the League Management Company from the CAF Champions League spot to the CAF Confederations League after the decision to use a point per game (PPG) accumulation rule for an inconclusive league season to determine their postings in the continental competition.

#NPFL: FC Ifeanyi Uba Team Bus attacked by robbers

According to reports from a member of the crew, the coaching staff and players of FC IFEANYI UBA of Anambra State were attacked by robbers along the Lokoja expressway close to Kaba junction. 


The incident took place by 1.30 pm today when the team travelling  to Kano for their MD6 NPFL fixture against Jigawa Golden Stars in their official team bus was attacked by robbers dressed in NYSC uniform.

No lives was lost but the team driver was shot and is in intensive care while the others sustained injuries and are been taken care of medically.

NPFL: Kano Pillars fans disrupt game in Agege Stadium

Nigeria Professional Football League Super Six tournament turns sour as fans of Kano Pillars pounce on referee and cause chaos after the final whistle in Agege Stadium,  Lagos.

The scheduled tournament to determine who represents the country in the continent was in shambles as fans of Kano Pillars showed their holiganism after they felt referee's officiating was not in their favour.

The Kano Pillars took the lead but a late red card and an 83rd minute penalty awarded to Enugu Rangers drawing the game level caused uproar around the stadium. At the sound of the final whistle, it was mayhem in and around the stadium as security officials watch while fans pounced on the center referee spearheaded by the Kano Pillars captain Rabiu Ali.

The league Management Company is yet to issue their verdict on the incident.
