"It's coming Home".......the fairytale has ended for the English National team who had it all set out for a surprising Homecoming with the 'Holy Grail'. Gareth Southgate and his 'Golden Generation' have had their expectation cut short after Mario Mandzukic's extra-time winner sends Croatia to the finals.
Before now, England were clear favorites to progress to the finals following their resurgence in style of play. Their tenacity and team work have kept them going but they only have the determined Croats to contend with.
England took the lead in the 3rd minute from Kierian Trippier's weel curled freekick from 25yards out but Ivan Perisic equalizer restored parity. Both teams played for the extra minutes and it took Mario Mandzukic the 109th minute to score the winner putting the icing on the cake for the Croatian side who kept their cool until the final whistle.
Croatia book a date with France at the Luzhniki Stadium on 15th July, 2018, 4pm BST/11am ET. This is their first ever World Cup appearance.
