UEFA Tournaments Reformed - 2024/2025 UEFA Season begins
In case you missed it, UEFA, the
body responsible for hosting club tournaments has announced a new
format to its competitions – The UEFA Champions League, The UEFA Europa League
and the UEFA Europa Conference League for the next season.
UEFA President Alexsander Ceferin
made this official during a UEFA committee conference in UEFA headquarters,
Nyon, Switzerland. This new format will take effect from the 2024/2025 UEFA
season with the following changes:
1. 36 Teams included (up from 32)
2. Group Stages are replaced by
one big league table
3. Each Team plays 10 games in the
first phase (5 Home, 5 Away)
4. The top eight sides in the league
phase will qualify automatically for the knockout stage
5. Teams finishing 9th
-24th place will compete in a two legged play-off to secure their
path to the last 16.
While the UCL is the main focus, the UEFA
Europa League and Conference League were also part of the change;
1. 8 League stage games
2. 6 games each in League stage
How will teams qualify for the
UEFA tournament?
Every team will earn their place
in the UCL, Europa and Conference League through team’s domestic competition
performance. This means that teams with a good historic record and performance
in all UEFA competitions will be ranked higher on the UEFA co-efficient and
hence will earn them a place in the League.
